In 2020, like so many other events around the world, Fife Pride was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the circumstances beyond our control, the decision was made to cancel the in-person celebration scheduled for Saturday 4th July 2020.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and if anything changes we will let you know. Let’s all keep playing our part by following the guidelines, supporting frontline workers, and protecting our NHS. We hope you and your families are all well. Stay safe, stay well, and we look forward to seeing you at the next Fife Pride.”
– The Fife Pride Team
But even though we couldn’t gather in the streets of Kirkcaldy, the Pride spirit lived on. Pride didn’t stop. Instead, we brought it home.
The Fife Pride Team invited everyone to join us on Facebook on what would have been Pride day, for a virtual celebration of love, resilience, and LGBTQIA+ visibility across Fife.
We encouraged everyone to:
- Decorate their homes with rainbows
- Fly their flags with pride
- Dress up and celebrate safely
- Join the online fun and share support for our community and frontline heroes
As part of our Virtual Pride 2020, we hosted an afternoon of online performances and messages of solidarity, hosted by the ever-fabulous April, with appearances from:
- Just the Brave
- Bev Lyons
- Jaxon McCallum
- Ellen Burnett
- And other local voices and talents
Though we couldn’t be together in person, Fife Pride 2020 became a heartfelt display of community strength, creativity, and compassion — reminding us all that Pride is more than just a march. It’s a movement that lives on, no matter the challenges we face.
Pride at home. Pride in our hearts. Pride always.
