Fife Pride 2023: Marching Forward

Following the vibrant return of Fife Pride in 2022, this year’s event on Saturday 1st July 2023 saw Kirkcaldy once again burst into colour, music, and unity as over 3,000 people joined together for another unforgettable edition of Fife Pride. The day brought together LGBTQIA+ individuals, allies, families, and communities from across the Kingdom for a spectacular celebration.

Festivities began with the Pride Parade, which stepped off at 1:00pm from Fife College’s St. Brycedale campus, proudly led by the Kirkcaldy Pipe Band. The march filled the town centre with cheers, music, and a wave of rainbow flags as participants made their way to Kirkcaldy Town Square, setting the stage for a day packed with positivity and pride.

From 1:30pm to 7:00pm, the Town Square transformed into a lively Pride hub. The main stage showcased an incredible lineup of performers and speakers, hosted by April Adamás. Headlining were local rock favourites Easy Ride, with support from:

Guest speakers included Cllr David RossCllr Stefan Hoggan-RaduJudy Hamilton, and Sister Alaska Lott, who helped reinforce the event’s message of solidarity, celebration, and protest.

Adding an extra splash of theatrical fun, roaming performers brought surprise moments of street theatre throughout the site, delighting visitors with spontaneous creativity.

The Youth Zone, held at The Hive, Fife’s dedicated LGBT+ Centre, offered a safe and welcoming space for young people. Hosted by Jo Crawford, the afternoon featured a mix of fun activities including drag shows, badge making, games, storytelling, and arts and crafts.

Across the event, more than 40 community stalls and organisations offered resources, information, support, and handmade rainbow merchandise. With a marquee barfood vendors, and a packed programme of entertainment, the atmosphere was energetic, inclusive, and full of Pride.
